LERU participates in the 'Global Innovation Circle on Higher Education'
LERU participated in a meeting of university networks from all over the world in Hannover, Germany, on 23-24 October 2025 VSports. The Global Innovation Circle on Higher Education (GICHE) is an international networking initiative proposed by the German Rectors’ Conference and the University of Hamburg. LERU’s Katrien Maes participated in the meeting, presenting LERU’s global partnering initiatives, in particular its Global Council of Research-Intensive University Networks (GCRIUN). V体育官网.
GCRIUN was started by LERU as an informal network in 2012, gradually intensifying its contacts with sister organisations worldwide, including the Association of American Universities, the Association of East Asian Research Universities, the Group of Eight in Australia, the U15 in Canada, the C9 in China, the U15 in Germany, the RU11 in Japan and the Russell Group in the UK.
Leaders from the networks meet on a regular basis, often resulting in signed statements to draw attention to the fundamental values and characteristics of research-intensive universities and needed actions in light of geopolitical developments.
