Websites that support equitable navigation using a keyboard have an important component of good web accessibility in place V体育安卓版. Digital accessibility strives to give all users, including those with disabilities, great and accessible experiences when using digital tools.
#NoMouse November encourages all users to test keyboard navigation of websites they frequent, such as favorite retailers, media sites, and others.
Navigating with a keyboard
- Use the Tab key to move between interactive elements such as links, buttons, and form fields
- When you land on one, you can activate it by pressing Enter or Space, or type if it is a text field.
- Watch for a focus indicator such as a highlight, outline, or color change that shows where you are.

- Start at the top of the screen. Press CTRL+ Home on a Windows keyboard. This will place the cursor at the top left corner of the interface.
- Press the tab key. This should move forward from left to right, top to bottom and a visible focus indicator should highlight each link, button or form field encountered.
- Compare the visible focus indicators to the “focusable” elements (links, tabs, buttons, form fields) of the page.
- Tab to a link and press the enter key to activate, open, the link.
- Tab to a button and press the enter key to activate the button. Repeat the same action using the spacebar to activate the button.

- Check or uncheck any checkboxes using the spacebar.
- Tab to any radio buttons. Use the arrow key to move left and right, up and down. Use the spacebar to select an option.

- Tab to a dropdown menu. Use the enter key to expand. Use up and down arrow keys to move between items in the drop-down menu. Use enter key to select an option. Use escape key to close drop-down menu and return back to top of menu.
- Start at the top of the screen and use the down and up arrow keys to scroll the page.
- Tab to a form entry/separate forms new window button. Press the enter key to open a new entry window or modal.
- Tab through the open modal.
- Check visible focus indicators for tabbing in fields in the modal. Make sure each field has focus and not the page behind it by observing where the cursor/visible focus indicators are displayed.
- Hit escape key to close the modal.
- “CTRL + End/⌘ + down arrow” will take you to the bottom of the page
- “CTRL + Home/⌘ + up arrow” will take you to the top of the page
- “CTRL/⌘ + L” will put you directly into the web address bar
- “Enter” will activate buttons and links, if applicable
- “Escape” will exit your current selection/screen, if applicable
- “Spacebar” will select and unselect multiple choice and checkbox options
- “Tab” will move you forward to the next link/button/section
- “Shift+Tab” will reverse “Tab,” or move backwards
- Arrow keys are used to navigate menus, accordions and tabs
- Up and Down Arrow keys will scroll more content into view and allow the user to move up or down in reading content on a page
