Graduate Student Tours

Get a glimpse of what your graduate school experience could look like during this 90-minute tour for enrolled and prospective graduate school students. The UNC Visitors Center graduate student walking tour is hosted by a current graduate student who introduces Carolina history, traditions and hallmarks as well as some of the University’s current endeavors in research, innovation and public service. Included is information related to graduate student life at UNC as well as the many ways The Graduate School supports graduate and professional students from admission to graduation. Because this tour does not visit graduate departments, you may contact the graduate and professional schools you are interested in with questions or requests to meet with professors or advisors. The Graduate School offers resources to support students as they transition into their program at UNC through Graduate Student Orientation. This includes an admitted students checklist containing important tasks and procedures for incoming graduate students, a framework of resources called C.H.A.R.T. (Community, Health and Wellness, Academics, Research, and Professional Development, Resilience and Resources, The Graduate School) to help students learn how to approach their graduate studies and make use of the wide array of campus and community resources, orientation modules to help answer the most critical questions students have about their education at Chapel Hill, a team of multidisciplinary graduate student Orientation Ambassadors, and information and training for new Teaching Assistants.

The Graduate School runs the Graduate Funding Information Center (GFIC), which offers assistance to graduate students seeking sources of funding for independent research, collaborative projects, fellowships, program development, and other scholarly activities.

In addition to funding, the Graduate School’s professional development program, CareerWell, prepares students for career success with training opportunities and resources.

UNC offers limited on-campus parking to its students based on a lottery system for assigning available spots each academic year. For more information, visit Parking and Transportation. For commuter students without on-campus parking, visit UNC park and ride.

Many graduate students choose to live along bus routes for easy access to campus. The town of Chapel Hill offers a fare-free bus system with routes running along most major roads to and from campus. For paid bus routes that go outside of Chapel Hill, Go Triangle Transit runs to and from Chapel Hill and the surrounding Durham, Raleigh and Cary areas.
